Award Season Update Oscars —Hours before the Oscar nominations were announced ( find the full list of nominees and my commentary here ), The Hollywood Reporter 's awards guru, Scott Feinberg, filed his final pre-Oscar-nom Feinberg Forecast, with his final nomination predictions . He was certain to note that these were predictions, not what he thought should be the actual nominations. I particularly like his "shoulda been a contender" picks. (He had  12 Years a Slave  leading the pack, with American Hustle  close behind; turns out, we made fairly accurate prediction.) As for the nominations, check out this round up of analysis and reactions: By the Numbers : Fun Facts and Shocking Stats , from The Hollywood Reporter 's Feinberg Later, Feinberg analyzed the nominations list , positing what each nominee's chances are The Hollywood Reporter  has nominees reactions , including Leonardo DiCaprio 's need to take a "nappypoo"(by the way, it seems...

86th Academy Awards Nominees

Image
The 86th Academy Award nominations were announced today! Without any further ado, here are the nominees: Best Picture American Hustle Captain Phillips Dallas Buyers Club Gravity Her Nebraska Philomena 12 Years a Slave The Wolf of Wall Street Since there are only nine nominees and not ten, I can say I've seen more than half the nominees. If not for that, it'd be a dead heat between the two. I think 12 Years a Slave  should win, and if Academy voters can get over their squeamishness an...

Golden Globes Wrap Up

Image
The Golden Globes, which honor both film and television, have been handed out. (The Globes are presented by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, HFPA.) Below is the full list of winners but first, as always, the fashion. Let's start off with my runner up for best dressed, Cate Blanchett . The Oscar winning actress (who can now be seen in Blue Jasmine ) wore a beautiful Armani black lace gown. She looked statuesque in the great red carpet-ready dress, with its high neck and detailed cut. And that was before we even saw the back, which featured a daring cut out. Blanchett looked sophisticated and poised, and I dug her tucked-under hair.  Next are a few column(ish) dresses. From left to right, Kata Mara in J Mendel; Kerry Washington in Balenciaga; and Margot Robbie in Gucci. Mara ( House of Cards ) shows off her new blonde tresses and some serious curves in this stunning silver number. Washington ( Scandal ) shows off her baby bump in the Balenciaga frock. It's f...
