Original Broadway Cast Recordings Galore!

The original Broadway cast recording of The Bridges of Madison County will be released digitally on April 15 and will be in stores on May 20. You can pre-order now at sh-k-boom.com. The Bridges of Madison features a score by Jason Robert Brown (The Last Five Years), and it's one of the most glorious scores I've heard in years. You'll definitely want to pick up a copy so you can swoon over Kelli O'Hara and Steven Pasquale singing songs like "One Second and a Million Miles" and "It All Fades Away." To learn more about The Bridges of Madison County and to purchase tickets, visit bridgesofmadisoncountymusical.com.

There will be an If/Then cast album, and it will be released on June 3!!!!!!! Playbill has more. (In other news: Idina Menzel will perform on the Today show on April 3.) If/Then is the original Broadway musical from Brian Yorkey and Tom Kitt. The pair have reteamed with their Next to Normal director Michael Greif to bring audiences this thought-provoking tale of one woman's "what if"s. In addition to Menzel, the musical stars Anthony Rapp, LaChanze and James Snyder. The company will celebrate opening night this Sunday, March 30 (look for my review). For more information about If/Then and to purchase tickets, visit ifthenthemusical.com.

There will also be a cast album for Violet, the Jeanine Tesori-Brian Crawley musical that begins Broadway previews tonight. The cast, which includes Anything Goes stars Sutton Foster and Colin Donnell, as well as Tony nominee Joshua Henry (American Idiot, The Scottsboro Boys), will record the album on April 7, and it will be released on June 3. You can pre-order the recording now from PS Classics. A Roundabout production, Violet plays at the American Airlines Theatre, and will celebrate opening night on April 20. Broadway.com has more.

Off-BroadwayAllison Case (Hair, Hands on a Hardbody), Adam Chanler-Berat (Next to Normal, Peter and the Starcatcher) and Patti Murin (Lysistrata Jones) are among the stars of the musical Fly by Night, which is coming to off-Broadway's Playwrights Horizons theatre later this spring. Written by Will Connolly (Once), Kim Rosenstock (Tigers Be Still) and Michael Mitnick (Sex Lives of Our Parents), the musical begins previews on May 16. Opening night is set for June 10 and the limited engagement will conclude on June 29. The production is directed by Carolyn Cantor (Arlington). Playbill has more.

Film—Here's an interesting pairing: Meryl Streep is teaming up with Diablo Cody (Juno, Young Adult), for the new film, Ricky and the Flash. To be directed by Jonathan Demme, the new flick would feature Streep playing "a woman who abandoned her family when she was younger to find fame and fortune as a rock star. Decades later, she decides to be a mother again to her estranged children, one of whom is going through a rough divorce," The Wrap reports. Stay tuned for more about this project.
